Bolivian Butterfly Ram (Mikrogeophagus altispinosus)
The Bolivian Butterfly Ram is a peaceful and hardy dwarf cichlid, perfect for community aquariums. Known for its gentle nature and subtle beauty, this species displays soft yellows, blues, and reds with elegant fin extensions that really stand out as they mature.
Unlike its German Blue Ram cousin, the Bolivian Ram is more forgiving of water conditions, making it an excellent choice for both beginner and experienced aquarists. They are calm, inquisitive fish that spend much of their time exploring the lower levels of the tank and interacting with their environment.
Bolivian Rams do best in well-planted aquariums with driftwood, rocks, and sandy substrates. They are compatible with other peaceful community fish and can be kept as a pair or small group in appropriately sized tanks.
