Rotkeil Severum (Heros sp. “Rotkeil”)
The Rotkeil Severum is a stunning South American cichlid prized for its vibrant red-orange markings, elegant body shape, and peaceful nature. Often referred to as the “Red Shoulder Severum,” this beautiful fish develops intense coloration as it matures, making it a standout feature in any large freshwater aquarium.
Compared to many other cichlids, Rotkeil Severums are relatively calm and can be successfully kept with other peaceful to semi-aggressive tank mates of similar size. They are intelligent, interactive fish that quickly learn to recognize their owners and eagerly accept a variety of quality pellets, frozen foods, and fresh vegetables.
Growing to around 20–25cm in captivity, Rotkeil Severums thrive in spacious aquariums with plenty of swimming room, driftwood, and natural décor. Their striking colours, engaging personality, and manageable temperament make them a favourite among both beginner and experienced cichlid keepers.
