Otocinclus Catfish, often simply called “Otos,” are one of the best algae-eating fish for planted and community aquariums. These small, peaceful catfish are constantly grazing on soft algae and biofilm, making them a popular choice for keeping aquariums looking clean while adding plenty of activity.
Otocinclus are highly social fish and do best when kept in groups of at least 6. They thrive in mature, well-established aquariums with stable water conditions and plenty of plants, driftwood, and surfaces to graze on. While they are excellent algae eaters, they should also be offered algae wafers and fresh vegetables such as zucchini or cucumber to ensure a balanced diet.
Their gentle nature makes them ideal tank mates for other peaceful community fish, and they are a great addition to planted aquariums.
