The Black Emperor Tetra is a striking and elegant freshwater fish, known for its deep smoky-black body tones contrasted with a subtle iridescent sheen that shimmers under aquarium lighting. Their flowing fins and calm, confident swimming style make them a standout choice in planted community aquariums.
These tetras are best kept in schools of at least 6–8 individuals, where they display more natural behaviour and reduced stress. Males will often show gentle displays of fin flaring and subtle hierarchy interactions, adding quiet movement and interest to the tank.
Black Emperor Tetras thrive in well-planted aquariums with soft lighting, driftwood, and open swimming areas. They are peaceful community fish and pair well with other non-aggressive species of similar size. A varied diet is important, including quality flakes, micro pellets, and frozen or live foods such as daphnia and brine shrimp.
