Pea Puffer

Pea Puffer (Carinotetraodon travancoricus)

The Pea Puffer, also known as the Dwarf Puffer, is one of the smallest and most entertaining freshwater puffers available in the aquarium hobby. Native to India, these tiny fish grow to around 2.5 cm and are packed with personality, often displaying curious and interactive behaviour towards their owners.

Pea Puffers feature vibrant green and gold coloration with distinctive dark markings, making them a standout addition to a species-only or carefully planned aquarium. Despite their small size, they are intelligent hunters that enjoy live and frozen foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and small snails.

Best kept in a heavily planted aquarium with plenty of hiding spots, Pea Puffers thrive in stable water conditions and can live for several years with proper care. Their unique appearance, active nature, and engaging personalities make them a favourite among aquarists looking for something different.
