Riffle Shrimp

Riffle Shrimp

The Riffle Shrimp is a fascinating freshwater shrimp known for its unique fan-like appendages and specialised feeding behaviour. Unlike typical scavenging shrimp, Riffle Shrimp use their delicate fans to filter tiny particles and microorganisms from the water column, making them an interesting and useful addition to the aquarium.

They are peaceful and generally safe to keep with other peaceful community fish and invertebrates. Riffle Shrimp appreciate established aquariums with good water flow, as flowing water helps deliver the fine particles they naturally feed on.

A mature aquarium with plenty of natural biofilm, gentle-to-moderate water movement and suitable supplemental foods will help keep them healthy and thriving. They should not be expected to survive solely on leftover fish food.
